Samsung’s Future of Gaming
Gamescom saw Samsung bring a new generation in the gaming world. After a first indication at CES, the firm has now presented a 3D gaming screen that does not use glasses, the Odyssey 3D.
Technology and innovation
Thanks to modern-day technology, this was achieved and the technology used was described as state of the art. Some elements of Odyssey 3D are Field of Light display, there is lenticular lens on the front panel and Eye-Tracking. Moreover, there is an integrated stereo camera and view mapping system which changes the image in real time so that depth is maximised. This approach is similar to what Acer and ASUS did with their glasses-free 3D products, albeit with an orders of magnitude larger form factor.
Attractive features
Thus, Odyssey 3D will be up to 37 inches diagonally. Samsung believes that people will be able to turn the 3D factor on and off to their preference. This mechanism is an imperfect one at best: the image often comes out a little blurry, and the optimal point is usually rather limited. That is why the potential to get back to the conventional understanding of the game is genuinely exciting.
A successor already planned
As for customary technical parameters, the Odyssey 3D contains a 4K QLED screen and offers the functionality of 165Hz refresh rate. It has got the response time of 1ms and comes with compatible AMD FreeSync. further, the monitor offers DisplayPort 1. 4, and two HDMI 2. 1 socket at the back. Samsung stands to promise that the general release of the product will be before the ‘end of the year’ without mentioning the price. It goes without saying that this concentrate of innovation will have a cost!
