Some information on ‘AI’ project of Meta
Based on the information that Bloomberg and The New York Times made public, Meta – the company behind Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and Ray-Ban Meta glasses – is negotiating with several film stars to integrate them into movies at the moment. The ultimate objective is to create a new type of “conversational generative AI” – or, in plain English, an intelligent personal assistant, referred to as MetaAI, which may be likened to Siri or Google Assistant.
The use of celebrities within an AI assistant
These celebrities’ voices are to be recorded, incorporated into MetaAI as much as possible and in Facebook and Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The relations have been somewhat oscillating, and no general agreements on the usage terms have been made. For the time being, the two parties seem to agree on a time limit: they can only be used within some extent of time.
Ongoing negotiations
However, representatives of the main stakeholders still intend further to tighten the restrictions. In this connection, it should be pointed out that the actors’ union of Hollywood, SAG-AFTRA, was able to achieve the adoption of protection rules for actors in the context of the potential danger of AI. These rules state that a company needs to provide monetary gains to actors and get their permission before depicing their AI mimic. Indeed, if the firms reach a deal, Meta may be required to pay millions of dollars in fees.
It was due to be made in September
Despite this, as per, The Times, Meta is keen on reaching these agreements before its Connect event in September. The products launched at this event are set to target artificial intelligence hence it can be regarded as product launch event. In comparison, in the previous edition, Meta introduced a chatbot platform with 28 ‘characters’ backed up by celebrity voiceovers. Since this project has been completed just recently, one has to ask how Meta plans to adopt and enhance this idea with MetaAI.
